Parker-Meggitt HU4000 Series Hose End Pressure Refuelling Coupling

A lightweight underwing pressure refuelling nozzle delivering up to 2,275 L/min, with a safety interlock built into the poppet itself rather than relying on add-on parts.

    • Up to 2,275 L/min (600 US gpm) at 10.3 bar (150 psi)
    • Safety interlock integral to the poppet
    • ISO 45, BS 4C14 & NATO STANAG 3105 compatible
    • Optional surge controllers – 30, 45, 50 or 55 psi max
    Description

On a busy apron, the nozzle is the part of the refuelling system that operators handle most and aircraft depend on most. The Parker-Meggitt HU4000 series hose end pressure refuelling coupling is built for that daily workload: a single point underwing nozzle rated to a maximum working pressure of 10.3 bar (150 psi), tested to 15.5 bar (225 psi), and capable of flow rates up to 2,275 L/min (600 US gpm / 500 Imp gpm).

Safety starts with the interlock. Rather than depending on separate secondary components, the HU4000 uses the poppet itself as part of the interlock system, so the valve cannot open unless the nozzle is correctly coupled. The nozzle also tolerates a high level of lug wear, is unaffected by wear in the aircraft adaptor slots, and is designed not to cause excessive wear to the aircraft unit in return. Six engagement slots and an independent swivel make it quicker to locate and connect, even at awkward angles.

The HU4000 is compatible with aircraft adaptors to British Standard Aerospace Specification 4C14, ISO R45 and NATO STANAG 3105, and is designed to meet MIL-N-5877E. Wetted parts are anodised aluminium alloy, stainless steel, PTFE, Viton and high-nitrile rubber. Standard operating temperature is -20°C to +60°C, with special seal kits available for use down to -40°C. A complete assembly with surge controller and lightweight quick disconnect is around 370 mm long and weighs approximately 5.3 kg – more than a kilo lighter than the previous generation.

Each nozzle is built to order from a coding chart, so it can be matched to your refueller or hydrant dispenser. Options include surge controllers rated at 30, 45, 50 or 55 psi maximum (including a double surge controller), standard, 45° or 90° elbow adaptors, quick disconnects or swivels for 2″, 2.5″ or 3″ BSP or NPT hose, stick, ring or stirrup handles, 60 or 100 mesh strainers, vacuum relief valves (10, 15 or 22 inHg), grade selectivity, fluorocarbon seals, a dust cap and a bonding cable. With the 100 mesh strainer and quick disconnect fitted, pressure drop at 1,895 L/min is 1.03 bar (14.9 psi), or 1.79 bar (26.0 psi) with a surge controller added.

Maintenance has been kept simple: the nose seal can be replaced without depressurising the hose, the nozzle uses the well-proven Mk 6 pressure controller, and spares remain compatible with its predecessor. Contact BMS to specify the right HU4000 build code for your fleet or to order spares.
